Quotes Reflection 11-20

“He that studieth revenge keepeth his own wounds green which otherwise would heal and do well.” -John Milton

“When I was a kid, monsters made me feel that I could fit somewhere. Even if it was an imaginary place where the grotesque and the abnormal were celebrated and accepted.” -Guillermo del Toro

“I will not let you go into the unknown alone.” -Bram Stoker

“To learn what we fear is to learn who we are. Horror defies our boundaries and illuminates our souls.” -Shirley Jackson

We must learn to forgive others, for the sake of our own good and peace. Guillermo del Toro represents a lot of us, expressing how monsters made him feel safe and not in danger because he could relate to them. As a true friend or partner, we should always have each other’s backs and not let each other go into the dark alone. In order to know ourselves completely, we mist know everything about ourselves, including the scary things like our fears.

Reading/Writing Task #4: Activity IV: 22 Sept – 6 October

“Faith is like electricity, you can’t see it but you can see the light.”

-Anonymous

“Maybe you have to know the darkness before you can appreciate the light.”

-Anonymous

“There is after all no light without knowing darkness and therefore there is no success without first knowing failure.”

-Byron Pulsifer

“It’s better to light one candle than to curse in the darkness.”

-Chinese Proverb

“Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the lights.”

-Helen Keller

All of these quotes have two things in common; light and darkness. It is a common denominator in these messages. The first quote is correct and very true because although we cannot see faith itself, we all have a light within ourselves. In order to have your best moments, sometimes we need to go through our worst experiences. That way, the end result will be much more gratifying. Using light and darkness as a metaphor is a brilliant idea, which is what Byron Pulsifer did in this quote. Personally, I don’t really understand this Chinese proverb very well. However, I feel like when I do, it’ll mean a lot to me. Helen Keller is unfamiliar to me, but she seems like a very i spiring and strong character.
